WITH just one week to go until take-off, we look at what’s happening and when at this year’s Bournemouth Air Festival in the air and on the ground.

The 11th annual Air Festival will roar into action from 2pm on the Thursday.

Some of the planes set to take to the skies on day one include the RAF Battle of Britain Dakota, Team Raven and the Super Pitts Muscle Biplane.

The Red Arrows will be doing their first of three displays during the event at 5.30pm.

The fun doesn’t stop at night as the dusk display will see performances from the Twister Pair and Fireflies Pair and Otto the Helicopter.

Musical entertainment on the main stage by Pier Approach will come courtesy of Bee Gees UK with support from Nino Nikolov and McGoozer.

Friday will see the Royal Marines Unarmed Combat demonstration kick things off at 1pm. The Brietling Jet Team will be making their Air Festival debut as will the Jet Suit Display Team who will be giving not one but two displays; one during the day and another as part Night Air. People will be able to see two pilots demonstrate human flight as they fly along the seafront.

The mighty RAF Chinook, which is instantly recognisable from its ‘wokka wokka’ noise, will also be making an entrance.

There will be fireworks at Bournemouth Pier at 10pm on Friday with another display taking place on Saturday night plus music from the Stevie Wonder Tribute Band supported by Dany Adams.

Saturday’s flying will begin with the Red Arrows and boasts a jam-packed line-up including the Vampire Pair, Bremont Great War Display Team and The Blades with another two appearances from the Jet Suit Display Team. Flying will culminate with the final Night Air display of the event.

Head to East Overcliff Drive on Saturday and Sunday for a celebration of all things retro at A Very Vintage Weekend to mark 100 years since the First World War and the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

There will be live music on both days from 11am from the likes of the Aphrodite Singers, JitterbugJive and Ruby plus classic cars and more.

Over on the main stage at Pier Approach on Saturday night, music fans will be able to enjoy tribute act U2 2 with support from Greg Johnson.

On Sunday, people will be able to enjoy displays from the Tigers Freefall Parachute Display Team, StrikeMaster Pair and Sally B.
