CELEBRATIONS are under way across Dorset and the New Forest after students notched up impressive GCSE results.

Many schools reported record results with others recording huge improvements.

The new grades 9-1 were used in all subjects with both 8 and 9 said to be equivalent to the old A* top grade.

At Bournemouth School Simi Hellsten swept the board with grade 9s in all 12 of his subjects.

And both Parkfield and St Aldhelm’s Schools, which recorded low results last year, saw huge improvements.

BOURNE ACADEMY: Mark Avoth, Principal, said: “I am delighted to say that The Bourne Academy has achieved record results this year. Our English and mathematics 9 to 4 grade results are at 75 per cent and 70 per cent respectively.”

BISHOP OF WINCHESTER ACADEMY: Principal Paul McKeown said: “Congratulations to students and staff who have achieved a very good set of examination results.”

OAK ACADEMY: Almost 50 per cent of students achieved a 9-4 standard pass in English and Mathematics, an increase of nine per cent on results last year.

TALBOT HEATH: International volleyball player and Talbot Heath pupil, Charlotte Wittram, achieved nine, level 9 GCSEs. 60 per cent of GCSE grades were level 7-9, with 36 per cent of those level 8 and 9.

ST PETER’S: 77 per cent of students gaining a 4 or above in English and maths and the proportion achieving a five or above in both reached 54 per cent.

BOURNEMOUTH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS: “We are celebrating our best ever GCSE results at BSG” said head teacher Alistair Brien. More than a fifth of exams were at the new top grade 9 and two thirds of all exams were passed at grades 7-9/A/A*.

WINTON AND GLENMOOR: 88 per cent of students at Glenmoor Academy and 78 per cent at Winton achieved 4 or above in both English and maths. Of those 77 per cent of Glenmoor pupils and 60 per cent at Winton achieved grade 5 or above in English and maths.

AVONBOURNE AND HAREWOOD: A rise in the number of students achieving top grades at Avonbourne, with a high proportion passing both English and Maths. In English 83% passed and in maths it was 62% - with altogether 60% passing both key subjects.

44 per cent at Harewood gained 9-4 in five subjects including English and maths.

LeAF STUDIO: Stage and Screen students excelled in GCSE Dance and Drama with over a third achieving an impressive grade 7 or higher and 78 per cent achieving a strong pass overall. 82 per cent of all students gaining at least a standard pass in English Literature.

PARKSTONE GRAMMAR: 99 per cent of students achieved 4-9 in English and maths, 34 students achieved grades 7-9 or in all their subjects, 13 per cent of grades were at the top grade 9.

POOLE HIGH: Head teacher Paul Gray said: “This is our fifth consecutive year of best ever results. In Maths and English 74 per cent of students achieved good passes.”

ST ALDHELM’S ACADEMY: St Aldhelm’s Academy reported a provisional progress 8 figure of +0.42. This figure is well above national average (-0.03, 2017) and reflects the impressive progress that our students have made across their best eight subjects.

CARTER COMMUNITY SCHOOL: 49 per cent of students achieved five or more 9-4 grades including English and maths compared to 45 per cent last year.

LYTCHETT MINSTER:73 per cent of the 220 students achieved a standard pass (9-4) and 51 per cent achieved a strong pass (9-5) in both English and Mathematics.

POOLE GRAMMAR: Eight subjects achieved at least 60 per cent at 7-9. 93 per cent achieved a strong pass in English Language, and nearly 96 per cent in Maths.

MAGNA ACADEMY: 49 per cent achieved 9-5 grades in English and Maths combined.11 per cent achieved 9-7 grades in English and Maths with 64 per cent achieving 9-4 in English and Maths combined.

CANFORD SCHOOL: One in five of all examinations taken were awarded the highest grade 9 and 42 per cent of all papers were graded 9/8/A*.

QE: Almost 80 per cent of all students gained a good pass in English and Mathematics. Emma Graham achieved nine grade 9s and one A^.

CORFE HILLS: 83 per cent of students achieved grades 4 to 9 in English and 80 per cent grades 4 to 9 in Maths.

Individual successes include: Kelly Wang (8 x grade 9 and A* with distinction in further maths), Owen Kanisius (6 x grade 9 and 3 x grade 8), Lauren Spratt (4 x grade 9, 3 x grade 8 and an A*), Sophia Bassett (8 subjects at grades 8/9) and Jai Crowther (all subjects at 7/A or above).

FERNDOWN UPPER: Overall 70 per cent of students gained grades 9-4. 17 per cent of all grades achieved were also A* or A grades (or grades 9-7), and over half of all grades gained by our students were A* to B (or grades 9-5).

TWYNHAM: 72 per cent of students gained the equivalent of 9-4 in both English and mathematics. 71 per cent of the students gained five or more grade 4 or above including English and mathematics.

HIGHCLIFFE: 75 per cent achieved the benchmark of at least five Pass Grade 4s or better including English and Maths and 79 per cent achieved it in English and Maths combined.

Parkfield School: 86% achieved a grade 4 or better in English and Maths. Last year the Free School achieved 46% and the national average was 63.9%. While 55% achieved a grade 5 or better in English and Maths - last year pupils achieved 21% and the national average was 39.6%. The school in Hurn is also likely to see a significant improvement in its Progress 8 score.

RINGWOOD: 55 per cent secured a grade 5 in both English and maths. At the top end 13 per cent have attained a grade 9-7 in both English and maths.

ARNEWOOD: 59 per cent of students, including those on Arnewood’s roll who are placed at Greenwood and Eaglewood Schools, achieved five or more passes in subjects including English and maths.

PRIESTLANDS: A third of all grades awarded were at 9-7. 74 per cent of students secured the new standard pass (4-9) in English and maths. 54 per cent secured the new strong pass (5-9) in English and Maths.

THE SWANAGE SCHOOL: The overall pass rate is 72% with 15% of GCSE grades top grades (7,8 or 9). 85% pass rate in English and 65% pass rate in Maths.

MOYLES COURT: More than 90 per cent of pupils gained five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, with 91 per cent of all grades achieved being above Grade 4.

BURGATE SCHOOL: 80 per cent of students gained Grade 4 or more in both English and Maths and 55 per cent had grade 5 or more in English and maths.

RINGWOOD WALDORF SCHOOL: 80 per cent of students achieved Grade 4 and above in English and 67 per cent received Grade 4 and above in Maths.
