HUNDREDS of cyclists are gearing up to tackle the seventh annual Rotary Dorset Bike Ride in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Westbourne, the event features eight different routes ranging from ten to 108-miles, all starting from Longthorn's Campsite, Wareham.

Event organiser David King said: “Over the past six years, the Rotary Dorset Bike Ride has become a firm fixture in the county’s social calendar, raising £200,000 for Cancer Research UK.

“The event continues to grow in popularity, and is a fantastic way of exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside while keeping fit and supporting a hugely worthwhile cause. Last year more than 800 riders took part in the event, and we hope even more people will come and join us this year.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, all the entry fee goes to Cancer Research UK and therefore maximise the amount we raise for this fantastic charity.

“We are immensely grateful to all of our sponsors and volunteers, and would like to express particular thanks to our main sponsor Bloor Homes, who have provided such valued support over the past five years.

“Places are still available for this year’s bike ride, and due to the growing popularity of the event, we would encourage riders to register online as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

Cyclists can register their place in the event online, with entry fees and sponsorship going to Cancer Research UK.

Bloor Homes is donating £1,000 towards the cost of running the event.

Luke Southgate, regional sales director at Bloor Homes Southern, said: “The Rotary Dorset Bike Ride is a fantastic community event for people of all ages which raises much needed funds for charity.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the event once again this year and we wish the best of luck to everyone taking part.”
