HAVING read your article on cyclists using the promenade (Wed, August 15), I can only think that Cllr Andy Hadley rarely uses the promenade.

My wife and I regularly use the stretch from Branksome Chine to Flaghead Chine and often have cyclists storm past us at a rapid rate. Some cyclists are very careful, but others seem to think it is a racetrack or that they have right of way over the pedestrians.

The other problem is that very few of the bikes have bells, (not just a ting, but a real ring) and they can arrive behind you without being heard, especially, if elderly and hard of hearing.

It is not only the poor cyclist falling off that gets hurt, consider the person or child that he crashes into!

I suggest more patrols to catch these errant cyclists as there is never one around when we see these cyclists disobeying the rules.
