WHEN mixologist DJ Food found The Dragons' Food For My Soul on an ultra-rare '60s surf compilation, he embarked on a trail that lead to the band's unreleased 1970 album.
The Dragons were three brothers who worked in the Beach Boys' backing band and recorded this album in a Hollywood studio's graveyard downtime. None of the labels wanted it at the time and one of the brothers, Daryl Dragon went on to find fame with Toni Tennille as The Captain.
BFI sat gathering dust for 37 years, until now. Within its grooves is a slice of psychedelic rock-soul confection to rival any of the greats of the age. From the gospel-flecked Mercy Call to the lysergic TV cop chase theme, Cosmosis, this is a sexy, funky, groovy, love 'n' peace symphony that needs a home.
