AN EMPTY packet of sweets, balloons and a plastic bottle top were just some of the items found at the broken splash park in Christchurch.

The popular attraction at the Quomps was closed over the weekend after pumps overheated.

Yesterday morning Christchurch Borough Council staff worked hard to ensure the facility could operate as normal.

However, officers shared details of some of the litter removed from the site yesterday.

A post on the Christchurch Quay and Splash Park Facebook page said: "We are particularly concerned about the small micro-balloons that we have found, they are of the type that can be used as ‘water bombs’ and if discarded into the water system they can cause us a lot of problems.

"Can we please ask that you do not bring these to the splash park, there are lots of ways to have fun with all the water jets and sprays that we have there already."

As reported by the Daily Echo yesterday, a build-up of litter was partly to blame for the closure of the splash park.

After temporary repairs were carried out, the council warned it may need to close again in the future for further repairs to be carried out.
