THE planning blueprint which could help shape development in Poole up until 2033 is out for public consultation.

Borough of Poole (BOP) is seeking residents' views on the draft Poole Local Plan, which aims to highlight preferred sites across the borough for 14,200 new homes, jobs and infrastructure.

Proposed modifications to the detailed document were highlighted by the the Planning Inspectorate and BOP during the recent examination process, and now council bosses want to hear the views of people on these modifications.

BOP says the draft plan outlines preferred development including:

  • Sites for 6,000 town centre homes
  • 5,000 homes in other areas with the best public transport links
  • Some 1,900 homes in the rest of Poole's urban area
  • 500 homes on green belt land in Merley and 800 on green belt land in Bearwood
  • Release of land at Creekmoor for educational use
  • Town centre regeneration

Julian McLaughlin, head of growth and infrastructure at BOP, explained: "The Planning Inspector has written to the council to confirm that the draft plan is capable of being found ‘sound’ and ‘legally compliant’ subject to the recommended modifications.

"This does not mean that the inspector has reached a conclusion on the soundness of the plan at this stage."

Mr McLaughlin said the inspector's conclusions will be set out in his report at the end of the examination process, so it is important that local people take this final opportunity to have their say and help shape the future of Poole.

BOP cabinet portfolio holder for planning and regeneration, Cllr Ian Potter, said: "Poole will see a lot of change in the period up to 2033 including new homes, jobs and other facilities that will help Poole prosper in the future."

The seven week consultation closes on September 7.
