A BUSY Poole road will shut in one direction today as extensive resurfacing work gets under way.

As reported in the Daily Echo, long delays are expected as engineers begin a programme of repairs in Lindsay Road.

The stretch will be shut westbound between County Gates and St Aldhelm's Road from 6am. It will reopen this Saturday, August 4, at 6am.

Resurfacing work will be carried out on both sides of the road, although one side of the carriageway will remain open to vehicles travelling eastbound.

The official diversion route for westbound traffic will be via the A35 Poole Road.

For safety reasons, the side road junctions adjoining Lindsay Road will also be closed for the duration of the works. This will include Wilderton Road and Wilderton Road East.

The Lindsay Road entrance to Tesco will also be closed for the duration. The Poole Road entrance will remain open as usual.

On Monday, August 6, there will be a road closure northbound from Leicester Road to St Aldhelm's Road. The closure will remain in place until Friday, August 10.

The diversion route for northbound traffic coming from Penn Hill will be via Leicester Road, Western Road and The Avenue. Canford Cliffs Road will also be open as an alternative route.

Poole councillor Ian Potter, cabinet member for transportation, said: "Unfortunately we anticipate some disruption in the area and would encourage the travelling public to take appropriate action giving themselves more time for travel or using other forms of transport."
