POLICE have investigated an alleged sexual assault at the Sandbanks beach polo.

The incident was said to have taken place in the VIP tent at the British Beach Polo Championships, which took place on Saturday, July 14.

Since that evening videos have been circulating on social media which depict sexual activity taking place in public during a late-night party at the event.

One reader who had seen the explicit video said : “Looks like Sandpolo is becoming as boozy as Ascot Races as the high brow seem anything but...”

While an allegation of sexual assault was made and reported to Dorset Police, the force said its investigation had now stopped.

A spokesman said: “Dorset Police received a third party report of sexual assault that was said to have occurred at Sandbanks on Saturday, July 14.

“Following further enquiries and speaking with the reported victim, no complaint was made to police and therefore no further police action is being taken.”

The event’s organiser, Johnny Wheeler, said every effort was made to ensure the safety of guests.

“I haven’t been contacted by police about this and can’t make a comment about the case in question,” he said.

“Our team run as tight a ship as possible to make sure everybody enjoys themselves and the event is as safe as it can possibly be.

“This includes providing more staff and security than is usually recommended to ensure everyone has a wonderful time.

“It is an event for all ages. It is very attractive to different groups in the town as a national event.

“We work very closely with the council and with the guidelines to ensure the event is long-term sustainable and fun.”

The event has been running for 11 years, and boasts the cream of the crop of British polo athletes, as well as celebrity appearances.

Made in Chelsea reality TV star Hugo Taylor was among those visiting the event this year, which for the first time boasted ‘Sandscrum’, a five-a-side beach rugby tournament, and a beach race between ponies and a Corba fast RIB competing alongside them in the sea.

There was also an element of fundraising for the Household Cavalry Foundation, and former Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood, a former soldier himself, attended to present a prize to the winners of a charity race.
