A CUSTOM-BUILT mobile kitchen will be visiting Camp Bestival in Dorset this summer to offer free cooking lessons in a bid to reduce food waste.

The Fresh Thinking Roadshow, a nationwide initiative launched by Hotpoint, is touring the country and will visit the family-friendly event at Lulworth on Friday, July 27 to Sunday July 29.

Festival goers will be offered free, hands-on cooking classes to families, who will be taught a selection of recipes based on the top ten most wasted foods in the UK.

Visitors will be taught tips and tricks to reduce food waste and have the chance to win Hotpoint appliances for their home.

The campaign follows new research that reveals UK households are throwing away eight per cent of their weekly shop, amounting to £271.44 worth of edible food being binned every year. A recent WRAP report found that British households now throw away five million tonnes of good food a year.

The cooking lessons will feature some of the nation’s most wasted foods:

1. Bread

2. Bagged salad

3. Fresh vegetables

4. Cooked leftovers

5. Fresh fruit

6. Milk

7. Eggs

8. Cheese

9. Meat

10. Fish

Jennifer Taylor, for Hotpoint, said: “Our research has shown us how much food Brits are wasting, as well as how much the nation really cares about the issue.

"Our Fresh Thinking Roadshow will show people how to take action to help prevent it. There’s so much that can be done with leftovers and forgotten food, and with the right kitchen equipment, from fridge technology that keeps food fresh for longer to ovens with auto-recipe functions for extra inspiration, your food and your money can go a lot further.”
