IT'S National Burger Day today and we've unearthed our list of our readers favourite joints in Dorset and the New Forest.

Last year, we asked readers to tell us their favourite place to get a burger and compiled an ultimate shortlist based on their recommendations.

If you have a craving for a burger, here’s where to head.

1. 7Bone Burger Co.

With their creatively titled creations, 7Bone Burger Co. in Gervis Place took first place with scores of nominations from readers.

The restaurant prides itself on serving “American comfort food” but be prepared to get messy as their burgers are big and bold.

Diners can take their pick from the likes of a Shuffle to Straight Time which comes with onions, cheese and American mustard or for those who like things hot, there’s Peter Green which has a beef patty, Texan all steak chilli, cheese, mustard and jalapenos.

Vegetarians are also catered for with two options featuring halloumi or a homemade falafel patty.

2. Smokeys

Bournemouth Echo:

This eatery in Ashley Road, Poole, may have had to close earlier this year for refurbishment after a fire broke out in the kitchen but it's certainly not forgotten.

The restaurant is known for its flame grilled burgers with no less than 17 different options for beef and chicken fans including the Smokey Yokey featuring cheese and a fried egg and Fuller's Fav with pepperoni, onion rings, jalapenos, cheese and BBQ sauce. Plus the menu also features two veggie burgers and options for little ones.

Steve Penney said on Facebook: "Miss Smokeys 'trucker burger' breakfast in a bun. Come back soon guys. Everyone misses your fantastic burgers."

But don't panic if you haven't had chance to sample their burgers, they are set to make a comeback.

3. Baia Baia

Bournemouth Echo:

Located on Holdenhurst Road, Baia Baia Flame Grilled Burgers has been described as a "hidden gem".

With a mind-boggling number of burgers on their menu you will be spoilt for choice with everything from Pajarito's Corner Burger which comes with American cheese, shredded cabbage, avocado, tomato, egg and crispy potato sticks to the Don Corleone Burger which comes with Mozzarella cheese, basil pesto, sundried tomatoes & rocket salad.

Reader Paolo Sanguineti said: "This is a great little hidden gem in Bournemouth, lovely family business with great food and lots more then burgers too!! The variety and the taste never leave us second guessing on where to go when we fancy a burger."

4. Monty's Lounge

Bournemouth Echo:

Monty's is family-owned and run with restaurants in Christchurch Road and Bourne Avenue in Bournemouth and describes itself as a "home away from home."

It serves four beef burgers, four chicken plus a specials menu featuring a mac and cheese burger. Vegetarians can also take their pick from three different types, plus you can also wash your food down with one of their "legendary" freak shakes.

Steve Mutton said on Facebook: "In terms of quality burgers alongside price I think Monty's is a clear winner. The burgers are perfectly cooked every time. Tender meat and melt in mouth texture as well as the brioche bun with fillings are perfect partners."

5. Seasons Restaurant

Bournemouth Echo:

It may not be the obvious choice, but Seasons Restaurant at Moors Valley Country Park came highly recommended. Open between 9am and 4.30pm (and 6pm in August), Seasons serves up five different types of burgers.

From the 6oz Hampshire steak burger to a vegetarian-friendly falafel and spinach burger with an option for vegans, too.

And if you're watching your waistline, you can tuck into a burger without a bun and fries and have a baked potato and side salad instead.

Posting on Facebook, Georgia McGonigle said: "Definitely worth a mention and a visit."
