A NEW trader is set to move into an empty retail unit in Christchurch, but exactly which business it is remains a mystery.

The premises at Christchurch Retail Park has been unoccupied since electronics specialists Maplin ceased trading earlier this year.

An application to replace the doors and glazing on the front of the unit have been approved by Christchurch Borough Council for a new business to take on the site.

However, the identity of the new occupier is currently unknown.

A planning statement submitted by charted surveyors Montagu Evans, which was written before Maplin vacated the premises, says: "The unit is soon to become vacant and therefore the development is necessary to meet the requirements of an incoming tenant.

"The physical workers proposed will also enhance the overall appearance of the property and improve the shopping environment for customers."

The proposed changes to the shop front were approved by a Christchurch Borough Council planning officer.
