Seven things to see at Shelley Theatre this summer. Each one is completely different, from film to cabaret, music to theatre...

1. I Got Life - Shelley Theatre effectively becomes a surround sound cinema and often shows acclaimed movies and foreign language films. The French heart-warmer, I Got Life! is on Wednesday, July 11.

2. Beverley Hills Cop - Dirt In The Gate host screenings of seminal movies, all on original 35mm print, for evenings of nostalgia. It is like heading back to the 1980s and memories of visits to Tower Park and the cinemas on Westover Road. You even get trailers from this decade too. On Friday, July 13, Beverley Hills Cop is being screened, starring Eddie Murphy, the timeless classic that made him a global superstar.

3. Musique à Trois Bastille Day Soirée - for a taste of cabaret and to celebrate Bastille Day, hugely popular local based band, Musique à Trois, come to Shelley for classic jazz-flavoured chansons with comedy on Saturday, July 14.

4. Charlie Hides - for an evening of comedy and flamboyance, drag queen and impersonator, Charlie Hides, returns on Sunday, July 22 with a new show titled, ‘Filthy’ (for the over-16s). It’s a tribute to tasteless jokes and smutty humour. We have all been warned!

5. Summer Rep Season - throughout August, the London Repertory Players are back for their third year of drama. There are four new plays intended to make live performance accessible for everyone. The summer programme comprises of The Murder Game, Dangerous Corner, Suddenly At Home and Dead Guilty and runs from Thursday, August 2 to Tuesday, August 28.

6. Spelling Bee - if musical theatre is something you enjoy, Backlight Productions bring their new show to the Shelley on Tuesday, September 4 and Wednesday, September 5. The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humour.

7. Mervyn Stutter’s Pick Of The Fringe - Mervyn Stutter is a stalwart of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has been a regular fixture with the Pick Of The Fringe since 1992. Since January 2018, Mervyn has brought a monthly event of performance, comedy, dance and music to Shelley Theatre. He picks his monthly events back up from September after a busy summer in Edinburgh.
