FORGET Bondi and Copacabana beach. Bournemouth has one of the most ‘Instagrammed’ beaches in the world, it has been revealed.

According to new research by TravelSupermarket, Bournemouth has the seventh most photographed beach on photo and video-sharing social networking site, Instragram.

It is the only beach in the UK to appear in the top 10 with the hashtag #bournemouthbeach being used a whopping 72,503 times.

The most photographed beach on Instagram is Whitehaven Beach in Australia with the hashtag #whitehavenbeach used 130,000 times, with Lanikai Beach in Hawaii taking second place.

Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda, Cayo Coco Beach in Cuba, Bavaro Beach in the Dominican Republic and Boulders Beach in South Africa also appeared in the list.

Pink Sands Beach in Bahamas, Ao Nang Beach in Thailand and Playa Paraiso Beach in Mexico came in eighth, ninth and tenth place respectively.

An average of 80 million photos are uploaded to Instagram every single day.

This weekend thousands of visitors are expected to flock to Bournemouth beach as the heatwave continues.

Chris Saunders, head of operations for tourism in Bournemouth & Poole, said: “On a typical sunny weekend day during the summer, we can expect up to 100,000 visitors to the beach. Obviously, we’re not into the school holidays yet so we’re unlikely to reach the maximum but we’re working on the basis of tens of thousands and look forward to welcoming these numbers to our award-winning seafront.”

Visitors are being urged to make sure they take their rubbish home and make use of the 200 new bins that have been put in place along the seafront.

The bins form part of the councils’ Leave Only Footprints Campaign and have seen the provision of bins increase by 70 per cent with blue bins for recycling and black for general waste.

Bin collections have been increased to twice daily along the seafront since the May bank holiday to cope with demand from visitors.

The glorious weather looks set to continue well into next week and highs of 28C have been predicted over the next few days.

Yesterday morning, popular weather presenter Carol Kirkwood delivered the forecast for BBC Breakfast from Avon Beach in Christchurch bathed in glorious sunshine.

The former Strictly contestant, who is known for her sunny disposition, gave a live weather forecast throughout the morning from the beach’s golden sands in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.
