AN open day is being held at the Retired Nurses National Home in Bournemouth, as part of a country-wide initiative.

The event takes place at the venue in Riverside Avenue from 2.30pm to 4pm on Tuesday, April 17 when guests are invited to join residents and staff for afternoon tea and enjoy musical entertainment from singer and guitarist Keith Turner.

The day ties in with the annual Care Home Open Day Initiative, which sees thousands of care homes across the country opening their doors to the public, and also is part of an ongoing commitment by Friends of the Elderly, the charity which runs the facility, to placing its care homes at the heart of their local communities.

Alan Johnston, manager of the Retired Nurses National Home, said: “Care Home Open Day gives us a great opportunity to welcome the local community into our home. We have a number of community events throughout the year and our residents so look forward to meeting new people in to the home to chat with and spend time with.”
