THE biggest house on the Sandbanks peninsula to ever come on the market has gone up for sale for £8.75m.

The Moorings, a harbour front mansion with sea views, is on one of the most enviable plots in the harbour.

Its owners, entrepreneur Chris Thomas and wife Sue, spent £5.5m building the palatial home that has been compared to a five star hotel.

Spread over 13,000 sq ft - the equivalent size of seven detached houses - the state-of-the art property comes with five en suite bedrooms, three reception rooms, an office, cinema room, indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room, gym, changing rooms, garden room and a wine room.

There is also a guest suite that has its own en suite bedroom, kitchenette and living room.

Outside, there is a gate house which has a bedroom, kitchen and shower room and a boat house that has a kitchenette and wet room.

Terraces and balconies make the most of the harbour views and the sunken garden leads to a private jetty.

The house is 'fully automated' and the entertainment system, lighting and shutters can be controlled by an iPad.

There are 12 Wi-Fi hotspots around the three-storey house and there is even a weather station system on the roof linked to the outside lighting and louvre shutters that automatically tracks the sun.

The top of the range Gaggenau kitchen cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and the sound-proof cinema room has a Cinemascope Aramorphic screen and tiered remote controlled reclining seats with massagers and refrigerated and heated drinks holders built in to them.

The 'super house' is situated on the southern tip of the Sandbanks peninsula and is perfect for watching the busy boat traffic come in and out of Poole Harbour.

The Thomas' bought the property in 2001 for £2.25m and were neighbours with former soccer boss Harry Redknapp and wife Sandra, who lived next door.

They demolished the old house in 2008 and had The Moorings built in its place.

Now with their children grown up and mainly living in London, the couple have decided to sell the property which will be a record for Sandbanks if it sells for over £7m.

Adrian Dunford, of estate agents Tailor Made, said: "This is the biggest and most desirable grand house ever to come on the market on Sandbanks and it would set a record as the most expensive if it sells for over £7m.

"Everything about this property is of the highest quality with every whim catered for.

"The whole house has a huge amount of technology packed into it, each room has its own computer system.

"Usually when you get an end user spec property that comes on the market, they tend to be very personal to the tastes of the outgoing owners.

"But with this property the style and lay out of it is very modern and up to date. There are a lot of open plan rooms and a lot of glass that maximises the views. It would fit most people's tastes.

"The part of Sandbanks The Moorings is located is the most enviable because of the good size of the plots and it has direct water access.

"It is also by the busiest part of the harbour with boats coming in and out of the harbour.

"The south westerly aspect allows for sensational views to Old Harry Rocks, Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and the Purbeck Hills."
