I read Kirsty Shatwell’s letter concerning Tuckton Roundabout (Have Your Say, Daily Echo, Saturday March 24) with utter disbelief.

When she says she travelled across Tuckton roundabout with apparent ease, she surely could not mean in a car?

If so how did she miss the traffic backing up in Belle Vue Road and consequently hundreds of yards down Broadway as well as extending down Tuckton Road and across Tuckton bridge during the works?

She obviously doesn’t experience where she lives in The Grove the delays which are commonplace.

Fortunately the Council has listened to local informed opinion and has agreed to retain the existing dual lane format on the roundabout to minimise such delays.

She is apparently happy to overlook the fact that the majority of the population is dependent on the car for everyday living.

Certainly something needs to be done to reduce congestion, but putting another pinch point in place is not the answer.

Of course the safety of pedestrians is paramount, but we have to be realistic if Bournemouth and Christchurch are not to grind to a complete standstill.

More relevant is the Council’s policy allowing almost unrestricted developments of small flats to be built without regard to the effect on and without making sufficient provision within the infrastructure.
