PLANS to demolish a bungalow in Ferndown and build a dementia care home have been submitted to planners.

The outline planning application for the property in Ringwood Road includes the demolition of the existing bungalow.

The two-storey building with 30 beds, will be built along the road near the Angel Inn.

There are also plans for a new access for vehicles and parking.

There will be a need for 2,754 bed spaces for older people in Dorset by 2033, of which 460 will need to be in East Dorset.

The developers say this proposal will meet 6.5 per cent of the overall need.

A planning statement said: "The frontage of the site shall be laid to hardstanding and used for parking and pedestrian access.

"To avoid potential conflict between vehicles and pedestrian movement, both areas are segregated to enhance safety.

"The proposed dementia care unit will be positioned amongst landscaped grounds and inhabitants will benefit from a large, private and secured garden which shall be landscaped with native plants, seating and tactile sensory

experiences and bird boxes so residents can enjoy the gardens and native wildlife."
