A PETROL station in Poole has plans to extend its forecourt shop, creating up to three jobs.

Motor Fuel Group, which owns Hamworthy Service Station in Blandford Road, has submitted a planning application for consideration by Poole council.

It is proposing to extend its existing Londis shop building to allow for a “more diverse range of convenience goods, increasing the produce available and thus increasing the number of employees.”

Adock Associates produced a supporting statement to accompany the plans.

The proposals are for a single storey extension, creating an area of 66sqm.

In June 2016, planning permission was granted for a similar extension of 45sqm, together with a refurbishment of the external appearance, however these plans were dropped.

The current plans would see a new shopfront created along with the extension.

A spokesperson for Adock Associates said: “The current shop has no architectural merit and the proposal is proportional to the existing building and maintains the same height. It is considered to be of a minor nature, within a designated commercial area.

“The development will have a positive effect on the character of the locality and accords with the principles of sustainable development and the policies for regeneration and making the best use of previously developed land as outlined in national, regional and local planning documents.”

They added that “careful consideration” had previously been given to site access and parking and made assurances the proposal would “not be harmful to the highway safety or the wider transport network.”

If the plans are given the go-ahead, one full-time employee and two part-time employees could be recruited.
