CONSTRUCTION workers and councillors are set to celebrate the completion of a scheme that has seen storm-damaged beach huts replaced.

Works to build new beach huts worth £2.3million and improve the seafront at Milford-on-Sea have been ongoing since September 2016.

The Ringwood-based firm Raymond Brown Construction Ltd will join with councillors and other interested parties on Tuesday, May 16, for the official unveiling - a week later than originally planned.

The previous concrete huts were battered by 80mph winds on Valentine's Day three years ago.

The council’s deputy chief executive and project lead Colin Read will hand over the first beach hut key to beach hut owner Colin Holdsworth of the New Forest Beach Hut Owners Association.

Cllr Read said: “I am delighted to be welcoming the beach hut owners and the public back to Milford beach to enjoy what we all hope will be a beautiful summer in this gorgeous location.

"I am proud that the council has been able to make the best of the unexpected opportunity to improve Milford’s seafront for everyone. I am sure the improvements will encourage more visitors and benefit the village and the New Forest coast as a whole.”
