Camp Bestival is in full swing and festival-goers enjoyed day one of exciting music, activities and food – despite the downpours.

Thousands of people wearing ponchos and wellies descended on Lulworth Castle grounds as the first music acts and shows played.

Children revelled in the Elmer the Elephant show and bonkers fun at the Silly Science tents throughout the day, whilst others enjoyed an array of music acts at the festival’s main stages.

Folk band Pronghorn, from Dorset, blew the lid off the Big Top Tent, and T’Pau and Mary Epworth lit up the Castle Stage.

But the most talked-about act was last night’s performance from international pop star Mark Ronson, known for his chart-topping record Uptown Funk. 90s pop group All Saints also joined Ronson as a main act.

Carly Bowen and Dave Hughes, from Broadstone, Poole, said: “We’re really enjoying it. So far so good, and we’re festival poncho ready.

“It’s about making the most of it, no matter what the weather. We’re just taking it all in, and it’s all about the kids. We’ve had our faces painted and we went to see the Bubbleman Show this morning.”

Carly’s three-year-old daughter Rhia joined in the festival fun.

Carly said: “She’s worn out, she was partying until half past ten last night – and she woke up at seven!”

A host of exciting food was available across the grounds, including some local delights at the Dorset Farmer's Market tent.

Caroline Drever, owner of Weymouth-based Dorset Shellfish, said: "Everybody is loving the fresh local food.

"We see regular faces of people that come and find us here every year."

Big names including Madness and Kate Nash will headline today, whilst festival activities continue.
