A YOUNG woman has lost six stone and 10 pounds after fearing she may be unable to have children.

Gemma Romsey piled on weight and was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which doctors warned could affect her chance of becoming pregnant.

But with the support of her husband she began a weight-loss campaign.

Incredibly Gemma, from Bournemouth, has reversed the condition and her hormone levels have returned to normal so the couple can fulfil their dream of having a family.

Gemma said: “I have suffered from PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) due to my weight but me and my husband want to think about children this year and the only thing to help was to lose weight. Sure enough after a blood test 5 months after starting with NSC Clinics, I had lost enough weight to reverse the PCOS and for my hormone levels to have return to normal."

Gemma explained she has always battled with her weight.

“I would hear friends and family say to me ‘you have such a lovely face’ but all I thought was ‘I know, shame about the rest’. Because of this I have never had any confidence in myself and often cry in the shop changing rooms because of how I looked and felt.”

However Gemma was horrified to discover at size 26 she tipped the scales at 20st 2lbs and was diagnosed with PCOS as a result. Doctors told her she could reduce the symptoms but they will never completely go away.

Shortly after Gemma met her husband and deciding to take action, she joined a slimming club.

However when the weight began to creep on again she was recommended National Slimming and Cosmetic (NSC) Clinics, Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth.

She said: “When I started taking the medication I was a little apprehensive if it would work or not, but it really does. I didn’t get the overwhelming cravings for food I really enjoy and I found it much easier than I initially thought, which made it a lot more enjoyable. I do still have my favourite foods but only one evening a week (treat night) and in moderation and this keeps me on plan.

“Before, I felt like my life motto with food is that 'if it isn't nailed down then I will eat it', but since losing weight, I make better choices and don't have to think about what I am eating because the medication has taught me to make the right choices including portion sizes and generally healthier foods.”

Today Gemma is a size 14 and weighs 13st 6lbs – and she hasn’t looked back.

Gemma, who now loves clothes shopping and going for walks with friends, said: “Now, I look forward to what the future holds with my new knowledge, relationship with food and confident self. And hopefully we'll be able to start a family of our own at some point all thanks to NSC Clinics. To say I am proud of myself is an understatement.”
