MORE than 600 schoolchildren came together to Sing As One at Lighthouse last week.

Marking the end of the first year of the Harbourside Learning Partnership - the trust created by the six schools to promote learning and educational excellence in the community - the children performed a number of well-known pieces to their audience.

Children, aged from five to 11, came from Baden Powell, St Peter's, Courthill, Lilliput, Longfleet, Oakdale and Old Town Infant School and Nursery to take part in the musical extravaganza, forming a 100-strong orchestra and a 90 piece samba band.

Chief executive Paul Howieson said: “We wanted our children to work together to celebrate our first anniversary and perform in an amazing setting with a professional band. This is what our trust is all about – giving our children the best inspirational experience to encourage learning – whilst having fun.”

Parent Zoe Bice added: “It was amazing to see the joy on the children’s faces and to see all the staff working together to make this happen. It was a fantastic experience for all.”
