WOULDN’T It Be Nice to have a music legend as the Sunday night headliner at Camp Bestival?
Organisers have happily obliged by announcing Beach Boy Brian Wilson will be playing the seminal album Pet Sounds in its entirety as well as his greatest hits to finish off the festival, ensuring there is Good Vibrations.
Music icon Wilson will be stopping off at Lulworth Castle this summer as part of his Pet Sounds 50th anniversary album tour.
He joins a line-up which includes Madness, DJ and producer Mark Ronson, All Saints, and pioneering dance act Leftfield.
1966’s Pet Sounds which features the songs Wouldn’t It Be Nice, God Only Knows and Sloop John B, is Wilson’s masterpiece and a hugely influential album.
It will be heard as the sun goes down before Leftfield and the fireworks finale.
Festival founder Rob da Bank said: “There’s been so much talk of musical icons recently and I’m very proud that we’ll be presenting one of the most legendary figures in songwriting, music production and, maybe, the ultimate anti-pop star, Brian Wilson.
“Having made so many incredible records with the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson’s Pet Sounds is a real solo foray into psychedelic rock, introspective lyric writing and a beautiful wall of sound concept album that still blows people away 50 years on. Whether you’re a stalwart Wilson supporter or maybe it’s the first time you’ve heard his name, I hope you’ll be there in the moment for the Sunday headliner in his full majesty”.
The family-friendly festival, from July 27-30 has a Pop Stars & Rock Stars theme to mark its 10th anniversary.
Other acts announced today include Kate Nash, Ray BLK, The Cuban Brothers, Becky Hill, Dub Pistols, The Blockheads, Norman Jay and Los Pacaminos featuring Paul Young.
There’s also plenty of family entertainment, relaxing spa treatments, food, kids’ treats and more events to be announced.
