MANY readers said the boat printed on September 23 is the paddle steamer Bournemouth Queen alongside the western side of Bournemouth Pier.

The picture was taken for tourists by the photographer Ernest Benjamin Bailey of Glen Fern Studios, Bournemouth.

The Red Funnel 200 ft paddle steamer, launched in 1908, was built specially for coastal excursion work, having a service speed of just 12 knots, and was put into service between Bournemouth and Swanage.

In WW1 she served as an auxiliary paddle minesweeper under the name of HMS Bourne before being returned to Red Funnel ownership in 1920.
