A HIGH-profile clifftop development whose flat-buyers have included the Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn is in the running for a national award.

Taylor Wimpey’s Coast is development is under construction on Bournemouth’s Priory Road, near the BIC.

It has been picked as a finalist in the Housebuilder Awards 2016 and is competing for the title of Best Design for Four Storeys or More.

AFC Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has bought one of the homes, built on the site of the former Bournemouth International Hotel and Ocean Palace Restaurant.

The first phase of the development – called East Coast – is due for completion in December 2016, with the whole development expected to be finished in 2017.

Taylor Wimpey says there are opportunities for a range of buyers, including holiday home owners and property investors.

Roz Wells, associate sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted for the Best Design For Four Storeys Or More award at the Housebuilder Awards 2016.

“Coast is a flagship development for Bournemouth which is transforming a high-profile clifftop site into a spectacular place to live.

“We’ve worked hard to complement the architectural heritage of the area through a contemporary design approach to create a distinctive landmark along the Bournemouth skyline.

“I’d like to congratulate the whole team involved in the development.

“Their success is richly deserved and we wish them the very best of luck at the awards ceremony later this year.”

Homes on sale at Coast include two-bedroom holiday lets, called Escape@Coast, from £277,000, two-bedroom apartments from £320,000 and three-bedroom penthouses from £500,000.

The development has views of the beach and is a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

A sales office is at the site seven days a week.

Bournemouth Borough Council’s planning committee first granted permission for housing on the site in 2012, when the proposals from Taylor Wimpey involved a restaurant, 57 residential flats and nine holiday lets.

The permission was never taken up and Taylor Wimpey later submitted new plans including 86 flats and a 91-space underground car park.
