MOST schools in Dorset could be affected - or even closed - by the National Union of Teachers strike action today the NUT has warned.
The union has called strike action in a row over pay and conditions and school funding. The south west branch has called on all of its 2,500 Dorset members to take part in the one day walk-out on July 5.
But, as union members are under no obligation to let head teachers know whether they plan to strike or not, heads could have to close schools at short notice, even on the morning of the planned strike.
Dorset County Council is urging schools to stay open, where possible. Information on the status of all schools will be available at www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/school-strike.
School transport will run as normal where schools are open, and with modified services in areas affected by a school closure.
