PREPARATIONS are underway for the return of Upton Country Park’s Poole Town and Country Show.

The Daily Echo backed event is in its eighth year, with organisers expecting thousands of people to descend on the grounds on August 6 and 7 to enjoy a packed schedule of rural fun.

Among the highlights will be the opportunity to watch dog trainer John Cavana in action, as well as Purbeck ferrets, terrier racing and the much anticipated goat show.

Director of Oakleigh Fairs Emma Owen said there will be something for everyone, with the extravaganza also set to feature an array of arts, crafts, gifts and food marquees, trade stands and other rural demonstrators.

“We absolutely love bringing the show down to Dorset,” said Ms Owen. “We welcome back the same families year after year and everyone is so friendly. It makes it feel really special and like we are very much part of the local community.

“It is an absolutely beautiful setting and the team at Upton have worked so hard to make the grounds what they are.

“The site has just been going from strength to strength every year.”

Musical entertainment will come from Celtic Confusion, known for their unique sound which blends traditional and folk music, and children will have the chance to enjoy inflatables and fairground rides.

There will also be opportunities to sample, browse and buy unique products in the arts, crafts and gifts marquees, as well as the lifestyle and food stands.

The event is fully catered and there will be a licensed bar featuring real ales and cider.

Organisers say that there are trade stands still available and welcome interest from associations and special interest groups which wish to participate.

Entry is £6 for adults, £5 for concessions, £3 for those aged 5-16 and a family ticket for two adults and two children costs £15.

The event will be open between 10am and 5pm on August 6 and 7.
