A MURDER investigation has been launched following the death of a two-year-old boy in Dorset.
A man and a woman – both aged 21 and from Dorchester – have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of the toddler in Broadmayne.
Officers had been called to an address in the Dorset village at 10.28am on Thursday, May 26, where the youngster had been taken seriously ill.
He was pronounced dead at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, later the same day.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire, of Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation Team, said the death was being treated as suspicious following the results of a post-mortem conducted on Wednesday.
“I would appeal for the family to be given privacy at this extremely difficult time,” she said.
Local Neighbourhood Inspector Mike Darby, of Dorchester Police, said residents should expect to see the force's presence in the village in the coming days.
"If anyone in the local community has concerns, they can speak to their local Neighbourhood Policing Team who will be able to offer reassurances," he said.
Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 26:107. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
