TOP marathon runner Steve Way will be running in this year's Bournemouth Marathon Festival.

The entry deadline for the event is Wednesday, July 8, and anyone wishing to take part is urged to sign up as soon as possible.

Way, one of the UK’s most inspirational runners, went from being a 16 stone smoker and takeaway addict to 10th place in last year’s Commonwealth Games.

It will be the first time he has taken part in the event in his hometown, which takes place on October 4. There will also be a half-marathon on the same day, as well as 10k and 5k runs the day before.

Way said: "I have long wanted to race a marathon in my hometown and the schedule works well this year to make it a reality.

"I took part in the half marathon last year and then set the marathon runners on their way as the official starter, which was a real honour.

“The atmosphere around town has been brilliant for the first two years of the Bournemouth Marathon Festival. I’m looking forward to enjoying the full 26.2 miles of it this October.”
