TWO Bond girls from some of the greatest films in the 007 canon will be in Bournemouth this weekend to dine with fans.

Caroline Munro and Martine Beswick will be at Chaplin's in Boscombe on Sunday, June 28, to lunch with fans.

Caroline played the assassin Naomi in the 1977 Roger Moore film The Spy Who Loved Me, while Martine was one of the fighting gypsy girls in the 1963 classic From Russia With Love and played Paula Caplan in Thunderball.

Caroline Munro told the Daily Echo she was “really looking forward” to her visit to Bournemouth.

Her connection with Bond began when she featured as an extra in the 1967 comedy version of Casino Royale – a troubled production which had five credited directors.

“It was one of the first things I ever did but I kind of got bitten by the bug on that,” she recalled.

“My director was Val Guest. What I wanted to do was sit on the set and watch the actors working and I was lucky enough to see Woody Allen and David Niven and watch these amazing people at work.”

Caroline landed a role in the official Bond series in 1977.

Like Martine Beswick, she was already experienced in Hammer horror films, having appeared in Dracula AD 1972 and Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter.

“On a Hammer film, the budgets were much tighter, we had a 4-5 week shoot, whereas a Bond film they were much longer,” she said.

“With The Spy Who Loved Me, they needed it to be good. They put quite a lot into it. I believe it did very well for them.”

She has fond memories of co-stars Roger Moore, Barbara Bach and Richard Kiel, who played the giant villain Jaws and who died last year.

“He was a really special, special man, big in stature and big in heart. He was a beautiful man and his wife is lovely,” she said.

She said she still enjoys travelling to talk about her movies. “I’m so pleased that after all these years people are still interested in them,” she said.

Sunday’s event at Chaplin’s will include cocktails, a Q&A with the two stars, lunch, a screening and a signed photo of one of the stars.

VIP tickets are £30 while tickets for screenings and a photo £20. Call 07932 783434 or 0753 0277494.
