THERE will be lane closures in place on the A338 Spur Road this weekend, as part of preparations for the rebuilding of the road.

Visitors to Bournemouth and Christchurch are being urged to allow extra time for their journey, as the lane closures are expected to cause delays.

One southbound lane of the Spur Road will be closed between Ashley Heath and Blackwater from 8pm on Friday. The lane will be closed all day Saturday and Sunday and reopen by 6am Monday morning.

This is the second 24-hour lane closure as part of the preparation work for the A338 major maintenance scheme starting in September.

Dorset County Council will be excavating two areas of current road material and laying a new recycled mix – the material removed and tested in April – back into the road for monitoring and further testing.

The work is weather dependent so work will pause if there are any rain showers but, for safety reasons, the lane closure will remain in place until the excavated strips have been filled and the surface course has ‘cured’.
