THE Red Arrows look set to display on all four days of this year’s Bournemouth Air Festival.

The famous aerobatic team has published its flying display programme for 2015 today and the schedule includes the seaside event from August 20-23 - a week earlier than last year to avoid the August Bank Holiday.

Last year the jets took to the air on all four days of the event for the first time and it looks as though they will again this year.

It is the news that most flying fans have been waiting for.

The team has been a highlight of the air festival every year since it began in 2008.

The display timetable also confirms that the Reds will be at Weymouth Carnival on August 19, and Southampton Boat Show, but, as was the case in 2014, there is no display for Swanage Carnival.

Jon Weaver, Bournemouth Air Festival director, said: “It’s incredible news to have the Red Arrows back for four days, last year was a record, this year it’s amazing.

“This kind of first class allocation from the RAF is a real credit to everyone involved in making the festival what it is – the recognition comes hand in hand with everyone’s hard work and commitment in making the event the best in the UK. We can’t wait to welcome the team back to Bournemouth.”

Having celebrated its 50th display season last year, this time around the Hawk jets will feature Union Flag tailfins.

The team also has a new leader – called Red One – for the upcoming season.

Squadron Leader David Montenegro, 38, takes the helm for the next three years and succeeds Squadron Leader Jim Turner.

Sqn Ldr Montenegro flew with the team between 2009 and 2011.

He said: “In the next three years, we will continue to represent the excellence that is the Royal Air Force and, in particular, aim to engage the young people of the UK, with a tangible display of what dedication, professionalism and teamwork can achieve.

“This is in the hope those watching our displays may be inspired to follow, or work for, whatever aspirations and ambitions they wish to pursue in their own studies and careers.”

The 2015 team flew as a full-strength nine-ship for the first time earlier this month as training continues and its display season kicks off on May 23.
