THREE people were taken to hospital after a serious head-on crash near Blandford.

Emergency services were called to the incident at the junction of the B3082 and the A350 at Lower Blandford St Mary following the three-car incident just after 9.45am.

One female driver had to be cut free from her vehicle by firefighters who removed the roof of the Vauxhall Astra to release her.

She was taken to Poole General Hospital by land ambulance.

Two other casualties were taken to Dorset County Hospital, also with suspected serious injuries.

Sergeant Nikki Burt speaking at the scene said: “Due to the visible severe impact, all the casualties are being treated as non-visible serious injuries.

“Another person, a fourth casualty, is being treated at the scene.

Dorset Police would like to issue a timely reminder to drivers to drive to the weather conditions.

“Clearly there has been a lot of torrential rain and we would ask people to drive accordingly.”

The two other vehicles involved included a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Auris.

The road was closed at Sunrise Business Park and Durweston Bridge as well as Milldown Road in Blandford.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they had sent four ambulances to the scene.

The road was re-opened around 1pm.
