THE average home in Poole costs more than 14 times the average salary, according to the most recent figures.
In East Dorset, that figure is 16 times an average salary.
David Cameron’s announcement yesterday that he intends to build 100,000 low-cost starter homes across the country – and sell them for 20 per cent less than the market rate – will be welcomed by many people.
But there remains a lot to do before many young households can be sure of affording what a previous generation took for granted – a home of their own.
