AS this year’s Daily Echo Toy Appeal gets under way, we’ll be thinking of a lot of children – and one elderly gent.
This will be our first year running the appeal without the man who organised it for 17 years, the late Phil Carey.
Phil received the MBE for his charity work and he made the appeal happen, organising it with amazing efficiency until the age of 92.
Thanks to him, thousands of children, and many mothers fleeing domestic violence, enjoyed a better Christmas.
We lost Phil this year, but we’ll still have his example to guide us. This appeal will be our tribute to Phil.
