We make no apology for returning, for the second time this week, to the subject of mental health services for children and adolescents. Our investigation, They Deserve Better, has prompted a huge response and shown that stories like those of Lauren and her mother Sarah are by no means a rarity. Today’s tragic story of Matthew Mason is yet more evidence of that. This is not just a local issue but a national one, as yesterday’s damning Health Select Commitee report demonstrates. Mental health support for the young is now firmly on the political and health agendas. It must stay there.
