THE Bishop of Sherborne is set to lead a dedication ceremony at Langton Matravers’ St George’s Primary School this week.

The Right Reverend Dr Graham Kings will conduct the ceremony on Friday morning.

School governor Nicky Glassock said: “St George’s School was founded in 1884 but changed from a first school to a primary school under the recent Purbeck Review.

“We’ve undergone massive renovation and extension works to accommodate the extra children and to modernise and rejuvenate our buildings.

“It is very much a case of old meets new. We retained our original Victorian building but it has been transformed internally to house fantastic modern classrooms, the new extended part is still in keeping with the village but much more modern, with lots of glass and stone columns.”

Throughout the transition St George’s was able to use some of the adjacent schools’ buildings, the Old Malthouse School – run by the Cothill Trust.
