Chaple Gate played host to around 30,000 festival goers over the Bank Holiday weekend as the seventh annual Bournemouth 7s festival took place.

During the long weekend, over 360 teams competed in 28 tournaments across four sports – rugby, netball, dodgeball and hockey.

As well as sport the festival hosted an extensive music line-up, including an Oasis tribute act, across 10 separate arenas.

Bournemouth 7s also featured theme park rides, a electrifying BMX show and even a late-night roller-disco for the crowds to enjoy.

There was success for one of the local sports sides as the Bournemouth University rugby 7s side reached the Beer Cup final.

However in a close game, contested on the show pitch, the local students lost out 19-15 to S.O.B.

Harry, a first year Marketing Communications student at BU said, “It’s gutting. I don’t think they were as good as we were. We were just not clinical enough in the game.”

However he reflected that the festival as a whole was certainly a success. “It’s the first year I’ve been here and I’ve loved every minute.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect but the nightlife is unbelievable, I didn’t expect it to be so busy.”
