AS from Monday 3rd of March a tweet-athon began between a handful of universities across the UK to get a ‘Pimped up Summer Ball’ sponsored by Club MTV and Lucozade Energy.

While the competition has been launched for less than 24 hours, Bournemouth has taken the leader board by storm by already accumulating almost 70,000 tweets. With the hashtag ‘#YesPimpMySummerBall Bournemouth’ becoming a worldwide trend - the 2nd most trend under the Oscars - in a space of a few hours and gathering over 10,000 votes in front of the next candidate, Twitter is tweeting Bournemouth proud.

This year Club MTV have teamed up with Lucozade Energy to pimp up an already existing huge summer ball and make it unforgettable. With the prize being £50,000 to spend on the ball as well as a whole range of other prizes, hashtagging has never been more competitive.

With students at Bournemouth University being bombarded with assignments, and a list of exam dates coming up, the summer ball seems to be hot topic and a ray of light at the end of the long dark tunnel they have left of the academic year. At the end of every year Universities host their annual Summer Balls which are the pinnacle of the student calendar. Each year they grow bigger and better from being ‘an end of year party’ to now mini festivals!

The competition will be adding to the event, certainly making the summer ball one to remember. The rules are simple: everything is carried out through Twitter, and all you need to do to vote is tweet and hashtag #YesPimpMySummerBall Bournemouth! Every tweet and retweet counts as a vote.

For Bournemouth to maintain such a high lead in the table and conquer the competition, Bournemouth must keep tweeting and trending over twitter until 5pm on April 7th 2014.

So get tweeting #YesPimpMySummerBall Bournemouth as many times as your hands will let you to show all the other universities what Bournemouth is made of!
