SWANAGE will be hosting a sizable event to support the BBC's Children in Need appeal next month.

A host of local volunteers have come together to ensure the Victorian seaside town does its bit for the national campaign in style on November 2.

Two large marquees will be erected at Swanage Bay View Holiday Home Park, where a host of fundraising activities are due to take place.

Bob Foster of Swanage Rotary, one of the organisations behind the evening, said: “The same team that organised the Swanage Diamond Jubilee Celebrations has brought together local organisations and schools in some extreme challenges and a fun day for everyone.”

Challenges on the night include Swanage Sea Rowing Club members Max Burridge and Skip Graham's attempt to smash the tandem world record for one million metres on a single rowing machine. They hope to achieve the record by rowing continuously for four days.

Other static rowing events will be taking place, including a virtual row from Swanage Pier to London's Broadcasting House.

There will also be an eight-team triathlon challenge, and Bournemouth athlete Steve Way joins runners for a continuous 12-hour run.

Personnel from the Royal School of Signals Regiment will also be taking part in a Swanage to London run.

Other events include five-a-side football matches and a Dorset Fires and Rescue Service 'three peaks' challenge with ladders.

Bob said: “All these challenges will be taking place at Swanage Bay View Holiday Home Park, kindly made available for the day.

“There will be a Pudsy paw trail throughout the complex for spectators to be able to walk through and cheer on the competitors.

“Two large marquees, erected on the car park, generously provided by Camelot Marquees, has enabled a full list of attractions and events to be added to make the day even more exciting.”

In the evening there is a ticket only gala event, with comedian Danny Wood, singer Lisa Winwood and live band Rat Pack 3. Tickets: £12.

The main event, which is free, takes place from 10am on November 2. Presentations take place between 6.45-7.15pm, followed by a packed evening of entertainment well into the night
