MAJOR changes at a Bournemouth primary school have led to its best inspection report for several years.

Ofsted inspectors rated Winton Primary School as Good and praised achievement, teaching, behaviour and leadership.

Five years ago the Oswald Road school was given a notice to improve and, until now, its highest rating since then has been Satisfactory.

But the team that visited the school last month concluded that headteacher Neil Tarchetti and his school team are going a good job.

A report just published says: “The drive by senior leaders to improve teaching over the last three years has resulted in consistently good teaching across the school and improvements in progress.

“Parents and carers, staff and pupils are totally committed to supporting the headteacher. Pupils behave well and are courteous and well-mannered. The governors are very effective.”

The school is much larger than average with 655 pupils between the ages of four and 11. Inspectors also pointed out that two thirds of the teaching staff had changed in the past two years and that a much larger than average number of pupils join and leave the school other than at the usual times.

Mr Tarchetti said: “I would like to thank the students, staff, parents, governors and everyone associated with the school for all their efforts in helping us towards this tremendous achievement. The report we have received is the culmination of a lot of hard work and we can be very proud of the learning experience that we provide for our students.” Councillor Nicola Greene, cabinet member for children and education service, said: “The Ofsted report received by Winton Primary School is truly remarkable.

“I would like to congratulate the school on its wonderful achievement.”
