WINDY conditions meant the last corner of the Imax lived to see one last weekend.

Demolition contractors were trying to see the building off yesterday but the wintry weather slowed them down for long enough to save the last piece next to the back wall.

Interserve site manager Barry Lacey said: “Unfortunately the weather has turned on us. The wind has been picking up the dust as it’s quite dry so that’s become a bit of a nightmare.”

It has been too windy to use the protective mat that was being hung by crane to protect either the beach side or the road, depending on which side was being worked on.

Instead they have been using a dust boss – a water spray with a fan which reduces the dust.

Barry added: “We have to keep stopping to let the dust boss do its job damping it down and that’s holding us up as well.”

Sarah May, Bournemouth council’s project manager, said: “Completion of the deconstruction phase will run in to early next week because the contractors have to carry out the work as carefully as possible in order to retain the rear staircase so it can be reused to access the new outdoor events area.”
