HUNDREDS of Mexican students are having a fiesta in Bournemouth – and they even love our weather.

While we all yearn for some sunshine, the 800 young people and 75 teachers from South America are delighted to be experiencing a real British winter.

The 13 to 18 year olds are in town for the biggest ever EF Inter Cultural Festival.

Their packed itinerary includes dance contests, spelling competitions, political debates and trips to London, Oxford, Cambridge, Salis-bury and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

The trip will be rounded off with a three-day tour to Paris, which will include a visit to Disneyland Paris.

Steve Bates, of EF International Language School, said: “They are having the time of their lives.

“They were warned before they left Mexico that England was having the coldest winter since 1963 but it hasn’t troubled them – far from it.

“Some of them have never seen snow before and they were delighted to see a couple of small flurries last week. They were taking photos and videos of it.

“It’s just a total cultural exchange, which is what this is all about.

“It’s them bringing their culture to Bournemouth and experiencing our culture in return.”

The teenagers are students at some of Mexico’s most prestigious private colleges and are staying in seven hotels in the resort.

Their visit has provided a valuable economic boost for the town, with hoteliers admitting they would be struggling without their business.
