A FOUR-vehicle crash in West Moors has sparked fears that someone could be killed.

A woman needed to be cut out of her car by fire crews after the collision, which happened at the mini roundabout at the junction of Pinehurst Road with Station Road, on Wednesday morning.

Brian Jay, whose home overlooks the scene of the crash, said he has been fighting to have the road made safer for more than a year, and had even emailed the council about the mini roundabout just moments before the crash.

Although the exact circumstances of this crash are not known, Mr Jay said: “That roundabout is dangerous.

“People treat the road as if it was a through road. Forty per cent of cars go on the wrong side of the circle. If something isn’t done, there will be a very serious accident, much like this one.”

Dorset Fire and Rescue crews from Ferndown, and a crew from Springbourne who were in the area at the time of the collision, received an emergency call about the crash just after 11am.

Firefighters forced the door of one car to allow paramedics to treat the female casualty, who was not seriously injured in the incident.

Mr Jay said: “The problem used to be a lack of signage, but that’s been improved recently.

“The trouble is that the road travelling towards Ferndown used to be straight, with a T-junction at Pinehurst Road. They put in a mini roundabout in 2007, but if you’re travelling the road and you don’t know it well, you’d think it was a straight road.”

Mr Jay said the road needs a kerb splitter island to alleviate the traffic problems.

“It’s a disaster waiting to happen, and something needs to be done as soon as possible,” he said.
