WORK is being carried out simultaneously on both of Poole’s lifting bridges, with two separate sets of work affecting the Twin Sails Bridge.

Tomorrow there are off-peak traffic signals controlling vehicles crossing the old Poole Bridge and work is being undertaken along Rigler Road, which leads to the Twin Sails Bridge, until January 25.

Today work was carried out on the Twin Sails Bridge to remove the existing cycle lane markings, which cyclists had complained were slippery.

This work has been postponed from last year and a special high powered jet was used for this and the removal of other redundant road signs around the town.

“These lines will be replaced with new paint to resolve the previous ‘slipping’ issues in due course,” said Julian McLaughlin, head of transportation services at the, Borough of Poole.

He said: “As we approach the end of the 12 month defect period for the link road, contractors Blackwells are carrying out works to rectify some outstanding issues.

“This includes replacing the light coloured high friction surfacing on the corners and junction approaches as the result of a production problem with the material which was identified by the manufacturer after the surface had been laid.

“These specific works will be carried out next week and are being undertaken at no cost to the council tax payer.”

He added: “We aim to minimise disruption while this work is carried out and thank residents for their patience and understanding.”

They will be working off the road tomorrow while investigative work under the pavements is carried out on Poole Bridge between 9.30am and 4pm. This was delayed from the autumn due to Wessex Water works in Blandford Road.

Blackwells will also be installing a road crossing duct under the surface for Virgin Media and some line marking works.
