JINGLE bells will be ringing out in Christchurch when Father Christmas and his reindeer fly in for the annual Christmas festival on Saturday December 1.

The High Street will be closed to traffic throughout the day for the Christmas Street Market selling a variety of food, drink and gifts from 10am to 7pm.

A marquee in Saxon Square will host performances from local musical and dance acts throughout the day, organised by Christchurch Community Partnership and there will also be entertainment throughout the market and at the bowling green opposite the Kings Arms Hotel.

A craft fair will be located in the Priory Church from 10am to 6.30pm with local artists and crafts people selling their work.

The Priory’s Advent Fayre will also be taking place from 12 noon to 6.30pm.

Father Christmas and his reindeer will fly into Peeks Partystore car park in Reid Street at 4.00pm and they will then process down Bargates to the High Street for the Christmas lights switch-on at 4.30pm.

Su Pollard and Chris Jarvis from Bournemouth International Centre’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty will also be on hand to help Santa and the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Peter Hall switch on the festive lights.

After the switch-on Father Christmas will take his reindeer down to the Priory Church.

Families will get a chance to enter the free Christmas Treasure Hunt competition to find posters in retailers’ shops.
