ENJOY a glass, or two, of pink fizz from Dorset’s Furleigh Estate this month to raise money for charity.

In aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which runs throughout October, Furleigh Estate is donating £1 from every bottle of sparkling rosè sold from the cellar door to the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Based in Salway Ash, near Bridport, the Furleigh Estate is a former dairy farm encompassing 85 acres of vineyard, lakes and grazing land.

Today, more than 22,000 vines of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grow on its south facing slopes and are used to produce international award-winning sparkling wines.

Estate owner Rebecca Hansford said: “Cancer is a disease that affects so many families. Sadly most of us know someone who has suffered from it and it’s important to let others know that you understand what they’re going through, and to raise funds to enable continued support and care for those living with a cancer diagnosis and their families, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a good opportunity to do this.

“We feel that it’s important to support a local charity close to home. Weldmar provides vital care to both patients and their families through an incredibly difficult and painful time.”

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign used to increase awareness of the disease and encourage people to take measures to detect cancer in its early stages.

A Dorset based charity, Weldmar Hospicecare Trust provides high quality palliative care for people living with cancer and similar life threatening diseases.

Grant Usmar, director of fundraising at Weldmar, said: “As a local charity we rely on the generosity of local people and businesses. It is only with their support that we are able to continue delivering care and support to people when they need it most across Dorset.

“It is wonderful that Furleigh Wine Estate has chosen to continue to support our work through their company’s activities.”

Furleigh Estate’s wines are stocked in a range of local restaurants and wine bars and can be purchased in a number of independent shops across the county.

However, in order to buy a charitable bottle of the sparkling rosè, purchases must be made directly from the estate.

The vineyard can be contacted on 01308 488991.

n To give you some inspiration of how to make the most of your rosè supply, the Furleigh Estate has teamed up with leading mixologist Lloyd Brown of The Venner Bar. In honour of Breast Cancer Awarenesses Week, the team have created a concoction for the Pink Perfection Cocktail.

Rebecca said it is a ‘fun and easy’ cocktail which people will be able to make and enjoy at home.

Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:

Furleigh Estate Sparkling Rose

25ml Porter’s Perfection Vodka

10ml Rose water

10ml fresh lime juice

Rose petals to garnish

Method: Add 10ml freshly squeezed lime juice, 10ml rose water and 25ml of Porter’s Perfection Vodka (or any wheat-based vodka) to a chilled cocktail shaker. Shake the ingredients together and fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Top with Furleigh Sparkling Rose and garnish with rose petals. Then just sit back, drink and enjoy!
