Veggie heaven at Zoukinis in Westbourne

Situated on the main road through Westbourne , the restaurant takes its place amongst the shops, salons and pubs on the high street.

Although we didn’t book, luckily a table was found for us quickly where we could sit and browse the menu and take in the atmosphere.

This place is busy and in demand – we saw several people come in to find that all tables were booked, and they will have to call in advance another time.

But, let me tell you, the food is worth waiting for.

To start off with, we ordered our drinks, with my friend ordering a Blueberry Bliss smoothie, made by one of the staff, and a glass of rosé for myself.

There are some great starters on the menu, but after a few minutes of indecision, we go for the sharing platter to try a few things at once.

On the plate is a selection of humus with warm flat breads, Mediterranean beans, falafels, olives and salsa.

It all tastes magnificent and could easily fill us up if we had come in for lunch. Thought has gone into the presentation, and the mix of flavours and textures.

Next up, my friend ordered the Quiche of the Day, which happened to be Goats Cheese, Peppers and Spinach accompanied with chips and I chose the hearty Jay’s Lasagne, made with layers of vegetables.

The food tastes good and it proved hard not to eat it all.

We rounded off the meal with a pannacotta made with soya yogurt and coconut cream, accompanied with a mango sorbet and raspberry coulis, and a triple chocolate brownie, served alongside a fruits of the forest sorbet.

Everything that we have eaten tastes home-made, and whilst there may be a little delay between courses, it certainly lives up to expectation.

So next time you are looking for a different place to try, book a table at Zoukinis because you’re in for a treat.
