As Monday (January 26) is Chinese New Year, why not celebrate with a Chinese take-away? We went to Ho Choys in Broadstone last week, and I recommend it. The food is great.

Choosing from their list of starters, we picked barbecue spare ribs with Mr Pang’s special sauce, and mini vegetable spring rolls with a sweet chilli dip.

The spare ribs were excellent and the sauce rich but mellow, with a slightly plummy taste that allowed the flavour of the meat to come through.

The spring rolls were a good contrasting dish.

We followed with Cantonese roast duck, which came on a bed of beansprouts. Excellent flavours and textures made this a memorable dish. Chicken with ginger and spring onions was also good, as were stir-fried seasonal vegetables which included mange tout, french beans, broccoli and carrots. One portion of plain rice was more than enough for the two of us.

Accompanying it with cups of green tea, we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Our meal, which we felt was really good value, cost £18.80 using a 10 per cent discount card.
